Her birthplace was in Mexico City, and was raised by comedian Raul Vale. She was credited with inventing La Balada Ranchera, a popular genre of music that hit the charts in 1973. This helped Angelica Maria to become the first Latin artist to have sold 2 million albums in the United States. She was married in 1974 to Venezuelan comic and singer Raul Vae, whom she met in the year 1974. This was the first Mexican wedding broadcast on television.
